October is here and that means Halloween is coming back to haunt us again! In the spirit of the haunting holiday, Derk Brigante has given me the keys to the Surfphony of Derstruction 2000 and asked that I do what he does each month... bring to you a top-notch episode of the Big Surf on the full moon! It is so good to be back! Spending all this time in my coffin has made me a little stiff! Ah ah ah! Of course, nothing will stop me from throwing a big ol' monster mash. It is a pleasure to meet you, I am Count Von Derkula. I will be taking over hosting duties of the Surfphony of Derstruction for October as Derk Brigante took the month off. He didn't say much before he left, he just gave me his email password and asked me to make sure the new episode comes out on the next full moon, October 18th! That's no problem at all, I just hope he doesn't mind that I signed him up for Fools for Ghouls online dating! Ah Ah Ah... But I digress, there will be an episode up come the 18th but with a twist... I'm putting something together that get you SCARED STIFF!

Coming August 21 on the next full moon, I have a really special episode for ya... I got together with my buddies Matt Groopie of the King Beez and Alex Pulec of The Nursery and we pooled our resources together to make a REAL KOOL episode of the Surfphony of Derstruction 2000. We're gonna wax nostalgic and throw down some real ol skool and rare SURF RECORDS!!!

YEAH THAT'S RIGHT!! A FULL VINYL RECORD EPISODE OF THE SURFPHONY OF DERSTRUCTION 2000!!! DANG

We played everything from Dick Dale to The Ventures! OK, that doesn't sound any special at all... But it was The Ventures covering Johnny Cash! I KID I KID! We played some real obscure stuff and a lot of lesser known songs by the likes of Link Wray , Jan & Dean and The Beach Boys... YEAH, Matt pulled a fast one and played some Beach Boys on the BIG SURF but I let it slide this time. I'm talking a lot about what we played and so instead of leaving ya hangin', let me give ya a little sample of what is to come.

Alex, Matt and I each threw down a track of our choice for this preview. My track features HOT DAMN with their cover of Take It Off! I found this little-known gem of a 45 at Sonic Boom in Kensington Market for a dollar. I played the A-Side, BEAVER SHOT! on the full episode so make sure to tune in to hear some HOT DAMN! Matt played Duane Eddy, a heavy hitter in the instrumental scene and his track FUZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Alex ended our set off with some Jack Nietzsche and the perfect song for those starry nights that will be fading soon come September, SONG FOR A SUMMER NIGHT! WOOOOOO

SUMMER IS IN FULL SWING AND NOW IS THE TIME FOR ... SURFIN'! So howzabout ya getcha self a hot dawg, get your board and get the latest episode of the SURFPHONY OF DERSTRUCTION TWOOOOO THOUSAND!

YEP every full moon when the tide is high, the Surfphony of Derstruction comes ashore from surfin' the seven seas to bring ya some choice trax for yer listening pleasure! It's always a fresh catch of instrumental music here on the Big Surf and The Big Derboski is never one to disappoint. We've been going all sorts of crazy with the past few episodes, going BEYOND THE LEFT OF THE DIAL and catching an old radio drama, WOO DUNNIT? Following that, we prepared for war with the GREAT LAKES SURF BATTLE SPECIAL checking out all the bands that would be playing at The Great Lakes Surf Battle and some others that have played at battles past! AND FINALLY, last month, we did a little bit of globetrotting to bring Surf from around the Earth in THE WORLD WARRIOR!
