SURFPHONY OF DERSTRUCTION 2000... AFTER DERK

UH OH!!! IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD, BABY!

DAG YO! The Big Derboski is out here wilin' in the nuclear apocalypse! How did I get down here? Well, it's a long story and I feel like regalin' this old tale so grab a seat, fink, cause it's time for a tall tale, ya dig?

OK so back in October during Count Von Derkula's nightmare mash on the Surfphony of Derstruction B000, I crashed the party to have a good time with all the ghouls 'n' ghosts. Never one to turn down a brew, I accepted a drink from Mr. Mephistopheles, SATAN HIMSELF. My judgment was a bit clouded from the bloody marys that Count Von Derkula was servin' up OK? So I downed the drink and, lemme tell you, I had one helluva hangover. Not only that but SATAN cursed the drink in order to open the gates of hell on Earth, using me as the vessel. This was documented on Episode 11 of the Surfphony of Derstruction but a little exorcising took care of that problem. That though was only one small part of the big picture though... The damage was already done even though I gave the ghouls a good ol' heave-ho and the dawn of the earth's destruction came to bear. I was not quite live but still alive on Episode 12 of the Big Surf to give you a low down on what was going down! All hell broke loose in Hell City and, as a professional, the Big Derboski sought to bring Surf to you finks despite the apocalypse... and here we are now!

The Big Derboski is back in the new year, THE YEAR 20XX to bring you more Surf from around the Earth, although the Earth is not what it once was... Oh no, it's now the NUCLEAR APOCALYPSE OH MAN!

Despite the nuclear winter that much of the world has been thrown into, I'm doin OK... good enough to bring you more surf on this full moon WOOOO!!!

April 5th - THE BEST OF THE SURFPHONY OF DERSTRUCTION

ya know, I gotta start this post off with a little somethin'...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WOOOOOOOOOOO! WHAT A FUNKIN' AWESOME SHOW!! Dave Konstantino of Revolution Rock and Chris Crossroads of Deliverance dropped by to hang ten with the 60-Minute Maniac, THE BIG DERBOSKI, Derk Brigante, to celebrate! WHAT FOR? There's a reason I call myself the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be, because I AM. 2011 CJAM'S VOLUNTEER OF THE DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG YEAR! WOOOOOOOOO! So, I figured, as my first episode as CHAMPION, I would play my favorite tracks from the shows gone by, as well as a couple chosen out by BIG DAVE

ARTIST SONG TITLE
the surfaris bombora
takeshi terauchi journey to the stars
the sadies the hi-jinx
the ramonetures she's the one
the blue demons moondawg
the revelairs cruel sea
the surfdusters riptide
the rhythm surfers 502 (like getting piched on a 502)

the gruesomes whirlpool
urban surf kings phantom riders of the backlot
shadowy men on a shadowy planet popcorn
lost patrol commanche
the nobles earthquake
dick dale the victor
mr gasser and the weirdos BIG BAD SURFINK!!

This show was fun as hell to do! It was a good time having Dave and Chris in but I kept getting distracted, hahaha! So, a lot of tracks were picked at the very last second but that doesn't matter because it all sounded OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH SO GOOD!!

I finally found a decent version of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet's Popcorn and I was very excited to play it for all the great listeners tuned in!

Here's the number that we started the show off with: The Original Surfaris with BOMBORA

Speaking of BOMBOOOOOOORAS, time to bombard you with hella links!

March 29th - ALOHA FROM THE FAR EAST

WOOOOOOOOOOO! Another theme show placed under the BIG BELT BUCKLE of The Surfphony of Derstruction! This week, we hit the pacific ocean hangin' ten and saw what we could get up to in the Far East! It was a bit of a loose theme and I allowed some breathing room to hit up the casbah as well as stop in at the ol' watering hole down in the amazon jungles! Jungle Exotica was the album of choice for this show, having spun many of the tracks from this fantastic compilation. Dig the playlist below...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WOOOOOoooo! WOOOOOOOOOO-HAT A SHOW!! BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG DRIFT!! THE SURFPHONY OF DERSTRUCTION had to take a 180 when I found out that it would be SOCAN tracking period!! March 15th - CALL OF THE WEST

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAW!!! HEY COWFINKS!! Sheriff Derk Brigante here again for The Surfphony of Derstruction! This episode, we heard THE CALL OF THE WEST and found ourselves out in the Wild West lookin' for somewhere to SURF! The tide decided to meet us halfway and so we had plenty of cacti and seaweed to go around! The specialty of this week's Surfphony of Derstruction was all sorts of Western sounding Surf! Yeehaw! Something unusual about this show was that much of the artists were CANADIAN! HUH?! Kind of unusual seeing as many of the artists are from the Great White North rather than the Wild West! I guess Canadians never forgot the Alamo either!

Canadian artists are in BOLD

November 30th - MIDNIGHT IN SALERNO

What a night, finks! The weather in Windsor was complete crap! It was dark and rainy as hell outside! The perfect weather for The Surfphony of Derstruction's FIRST-EVER theme show: MIDNIGHT IN SALERNO! We played all sorts of Nighttime Surf and it was good times! I had plenty of material to keep us goin', maybe even till midnight! Here's the playlist of what I did get to spin:

HUH?!?! ZZ TOP?! What is ZZ TOP doing on DA SURF?! First of all, ZZ TOP is ol' skool kool! Second, ZZ Top consists of amazing instrumentalists and the track Asleep in the Desert attests to that.

I was really excited about playing this song and talking about it on-air but I missed my chance! So here, check it out again!

Unfortunately, I cannot post as many youtube videos this week as a lot of the tracks I spun are troublesome to find on youtube.

In other news, I will be filling in for Martin Schiller of Tacit Karaoke this Sunday, December 5th. Tacit Karaoke is an all-instrumental program on CJAM 99.1 and I will adhere to the instrumentality! Not surf though, but something else... tune in to find out! THIS SUNDAY @6 PM on CJAM 99.1!

One more thing, SOCAN tracking period is coming up this weekend! December 5,6, and 7th! The Surfphony is on during this period so next week is an impromptu theme show! I will be spinning all Canadian surf bands in hopes that they are registered with SOCAN and get some money from the gov'! So, if you happen to be a Canadian surf band member reading this blog, Register for SOCAN and let me know that you want your tracks played!

Here's a Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet video to celebrate Canuck Surf!!
